Anesthesia & Analgesia Voted one of the Top 100 Journals in Biology and Medicine

San Francisco, CA, USA (March 2009) - The International Anesthesia Research Society and the Editorial Board and Publisher of Anesthesia & Analgesia are pleased to announce that the journal has been voted one of the "Top 100 Journals in Biology and Medicine" by the Special Libraries Association (SLA).

After nomination by an international panel of eminent subject experts, the journals in the "Top 100" were determined by the votes of more than 680 librarian members of the SLA's BioMedical and Life Sciences division.  The nominations included not only today's leading biomedical journals, but also the most influential titles of the past century and beyond, drawn from the fields of clinical medicine and allied health sciences, molecular and cellular biology, and natural history.  The list was compiled as part of yearlong events commemorating the SLA's centennial anniversary.

Honor Reflects Historic and Ongoing Legacy of Excellence
Anesthesia & Analgesia is the only journal of anesthesiology, out of several nominated, to be voted to the Top 100 list.  "This is a real honor for our journal, reflecting the 88-year legacy of excellence established by the founders and great past editors of Anesthesia & Analgesia, as well as the vision and dedicated efforts of our current team of editors, associate editors, and reviewers," said Dr. Steven L. Shafer of Columbia University, Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia & Analgesia.

The recognition reflects Anesthesia & Analgesia's prominence among the leading anesthesiology journals of the preceding and present centuries.  Published monthly, each issue of Anesthesia & Analgesia presents new and definitive research in every area involving the science and practice of anesthesia and pain management.  The first publication in the specialty of anesthesiology, Anesthesia & Analgesia is the official scientific publication of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) plus eight anesthesia subspecialty societies.

The Top 100 honors will be presented at a luncheon to be held in Washington, D.C., on June 16, as part of the SLA's Centennial Conference.  At the ceremony, presenters will announce which journals placed in the top 10, as well as naming the "Journal of the Century."

"We are obviously thrilled and proud to receive this honor, coming as it does from the librarians who specialize in the dissemination and use of biomedical and health information," said John Ewers, Publisher of Anesthesia & Analgesia (link to www.anesthesia-analgesia.com) for Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, a division of Wolters Kluwer Health. "The entire health sciences publishing industry owes a debt of gratitude to the specialist librarians of the SLA, and we offer our congratulations on their centennial celebration."

No other journal can match Anesthesia & Analgesia for its original and significant contributions to the anesthesiology field. Voted one of the "Top 100 Journals in Biology and Medicine" by the Special Libraries Association (SLA), each monthly issue features peer-reviewed articles reporting on the latest advances in drugs, preoperative preparation, patient monitoring, pain management, pathophysiology, and many other timely topics. Backed by internationally-known authorities who serve on the Editorial Board and as Section Editors, Anesthesia & Analgesia is your gateway to everything that is happening in anesthesia and 14 related subspecialties: Analgesia; Ambulatory Anesthesia; Anesthetic Pharmacology; Cardiovascular Anesthesia; Critical Care and Trauma; Economics, Education, and Policy; Neurosurgical Anesthesia; Obstetric Anesthesia; Pain Mechanisms; Pain Medicine; Pediatric Anesthesia; Regional Anesthesia; Patient Safety and Technology, Computing and Simulation.
